Wind power generated in Scotland will be sent to Yorkshire via a new £3.4bn super cable, as the Government scrambles to overhaul the energy system to meet net zero.
Ofgem, the energy regulator, said it had signed off plans for the Eastern Green Link 2 project, one of several schemes aimed at improving grid connectivity.
The 311-mile largely subsea cable will run from Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, to Wilsthorpe, East Yorkshire, before running inland to a converter station at the Drax power station near Selby.
